Please DO NOT interrupt the charging of the battery.
The battery life depends to a large extent on proper charging and discharge depth per cycle.
Always use a charger suitable for AGM batteries.
BATTERY MAINTENANCE & GENERAL USER GUIDE
Installation of the battery
- The batteries should always be installed by experienced wheelchair technicians. They have the necessary knowledge and tools to install the batteries in your wheelchair properly and with safe.
- Most wheelchairs require two 12Volt batteries. Never combine batteries from different manufacturers, or type / technology, or used batteries that do not have similar date codes. Never combine Gel type batteries with AGM type batteries.
- Always fully charge the batteries before use.
- Follow the manufacturer’s installation and start-up instructions.
Charge
- Charge your batteries daily.
- The wheelchair charger should fully charge the batteries overnight.
- There is no fear of overcharging as today’s “smart” chargers have a voltage limit and turn off automatically after full charge.
Proper charge (Basic rules)
- Use the wheelchair manufacturer’s charger for all charges.
- Never use a liquid type charger on Gel or AGM batteries as the batteries will be damaged.
- Long discharge intervals affect the battery life cycle. The more the battery is used, the shorter its life.
- Avoid extremely long discharge intervals and never completely discharge your battery.
- Do not leave your batteries at a low charge for an extended period of time. Charge a discharged battery as soon as possible.
- Do not charge your battery at a low charge without fully charging the battery on time and on a regular basis.
Storage & maintenance
- Always store your batteries fully charged.
- Check your stored batteries on a monthly basis and charge them if necessary.
- Fully charged and sealed Gel or AGM batteries hold their charge for more than 6 months, however they should be charged before use.
- If you have not used your wheelchair for more than 2 weeks – fully charge the batteries and disconnect them for storage.
- Avoid very warm and cold storage areas.
